TECH-DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA-ENTREPRENEUR

For Nigeria to gain the maximum from technology combined with the inherent skilled populace, we have to do what other countries have done. That is develop the tech scenario so much that the existing structure becomes so big and profitable that new startups spring up on their heels and can be acquired. There is a future. I recently came across a young man who said to me that his business is to come to Nigeria and look for smart software developers, He will brush them up and look for jobs for them in Europe and he was very proud of it. That is the problem we are facing here. A good number of people feel that they are not accepted here they end up in Europe and America and that is really unfortunate for Nigeria. These are people that Andela...

Okeremi three daughters

I am not a Superman but I think I have the most rewarding job in the whole world - and that is being a father because you begin to see your character in that little child that was born into your family. You begin to notice your mannerisms and your own behaviours even while the child is so young and that usually brings back some memories. Now when the children are babies they are a lot more dependent on their mums than on you as a child but for a father who is interested in the development of the child you will have cause and opportunities to carry your baby and look into her eyes and get that joyful feeling of being responsible for a new soul. Now as the child begins to develop and grow, they begin to be...

Okeremi wife has helped entreprenerial success

Without attempting to preach I will tell you that the bible says two are better than one because they have a better reward for their labour. This is very apt in a marriage setting. In my instance, I married a wife who studied the same course as myself and so she has been very involved in my professional career and business. My wife has also been a pillar of support for the family and me particularly in the early days of starting a small business. At that time, she had a steady and well paying job at Shell Petroleum. That gave me the confidence to take the risk of venturing into entrepreneurship. As time went by and the business became established, my wife was a refuge for me after going through various challenges in the office and business place, I...

Eduacting the future entrepreneur

Nigeria is blessed with a big population; the largest Black Country in the world is between 190 and 220 million [depending on who is counting] so having 170 universities is a plus but what are the qualities that qualify the teachers in these citadels? In an interview published in IT Edge News, Dr. Yele Okeremi, Managing Director of Precise Financial Systems Ltd argues that there must be a change from the current system that qualifies who can teach the future to the current students. "There’s an old saying that when someone says he has never seen anything like this before, he only wants to scare the people that are listening to him. "There is nothing new under the sun. This is not the first country in the world that has suffered gown and town challenges. Other countries have done this....

Parenting is not an easy task-yele

It is hard to be a startup entrepreneur and also be a committed family man. But I am proud to say, that by God’s grace, I have been blessed with a wife, who is my best friend, and three lovely daughters, who continually make me proud. I was lucky because I had a good template to build on. My father continues to a source of strong examples for me but the most important asset I have had is God, then my wife. But it is God that ultimately raises the child and two children can be so different even though they grew up under the same roof and similar circumstances. Being a father of three daughters in this digital times I think the most rewarding job in the whole world is that of a father because you begin to see...

Information Technology (IT) Entrepreneurship has been identified as one of the possible solutions to the economic and social challenges of Nigeria. It is believed that IT entrepreneurship is capable of creating jobs, wealth and bringing about development in the country. This study seeks to investigate the factors that contribute to successful IT entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The study adopted a quantitative approach by conducting a survey on IT entrepreneurs across Nigeria based on its stated hypotheses. The results of the study suggest that IT entrepreneurs who are born by entrepreneur parents are more likely to succeed than those who do not come from such family backgrounds. Similarly, the results indicate that the attendance of a business school is a significant factor for IT entrepreneurial success in Nigeria. Surprisingly, the result did not show any significant moderating effect of mentorship, either by...

IT can replace Oil-and-Gas-Okeremi

One of the industries that the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) hopes to develop is the IT industry. The action word is ‘hope’. It is presumed that the IT industry is not just able to create an economy of affluence; it could generate employment for the teeming youth in the country. For the IT industry to become an alternative to the very prominent oil sector, its capacity needs to be enhanced and investments to the industry encouraged. Consequently, it is necessary to understand the factors that make IT entrepreneurs thrive and ultimately increase their numbers. This is despite the lack of structures that are taken for granted in America and Europe. This makes it pertinent to contextualize the development of successful IT entrepreneurs in an environment that does not have facilitating institutions that have helped the development of IT entrepreneurs...
